Theme Title –‘One Man Show’ (Grace Jones)
Supervision: Prof. Hussein Chalayan (Design Concept, Communication)
Collection Management: Prof. Hussein Chalayan
Prototyping: Evelyn Selier
This course will run as 50% online and 50% in presence at HTW-Berlin.
Learning outcomes/expectations:
You will be required to look at the theme and develop a contemporary womenswear or a unisex collection, with resourcefulness, innovative methodology and a high level of craftsmanship. If the
desired finish of the garments is raw – it needs to be decisive and purposeful.
You would be expected to move forward by upcycling existing garments or fabrics you have in hand, if you need to purchase fabrics you would be required to only use eco-friendly fabrics. You will be able to also pursue digital prints but again only on eco-fabrics.
You will need to adhere to luxury market standards, receiving technical help from Evelyn Selier on the pattern cutting process.
Finally, you will also be asked to consider the communication and marketing angle of your collection, providing an Instagram link, developed in corporation with participants in your class.
You will be required to design 5 outfits and choose one piece or outfit (or more depending on your collection) to realise.
Collection management: Besides experiencing the design and collection development process students not only discuss the creative perspective but also reflect relevant management topics along the collection development process. These include the definition of a target group, reflections on the uniqueness of students' collection ideas (unique selling proposition), differentiation from competition, and some more. Collection management accounts for 10 % of the total course and is similar for any KK1 course (B3_11 sportswear and B3_11 sustainability)
You will receive a full detailed brief with all requirements, workflow and dates before the beginning of the semester. |
