The seminar provides an introduction to intercultural theories and serves to promote networking among domestic and incoming international students at HTW Berlin. In addition to biweekly theory units, practical exercises and individual group coaching sessions, there will be two joint excursions to selected destinations in Berlin and Potsdam that are relevant to historical changes and upheavals.
The content focuses on the following topics: - Culture in our current understanding
- Culture shock, stereotypes, and prejudices
- Intercultural exchange and communication: Specific aspects, scientific research, phenomena and irritations
- Actual (not just cognitive) experience of cultural misunderstandings with the help of exercises, followed by a joint debrief and deep reflection |
